S mode is not a new idea as it has already been introduced in Windows 10. This same feature is being implemented in Windows 11. It works as a security function on devices such as Samsung laptops, certain Surface tablets, etc. Moreover, it improves performance and security while simultaneously offering you the analogous Windows experience.
This mode does not allow the installation of third-party apps on a device. Specifically, apps like classwork applets, Chrome, and Zoho Assist cannot be installed on the PC. Though this mode ensures security, it does not provide adequate freedom on the installation of third-party applications.
The S mode would not allow people to install any third-party programs outside of the Microsoft Store when enabled. If you intend to install any software or app, you can do that through Microsoft App Store. Though plenty of apps are available on this store, plenty of frequently used and popular software is not yet available. You cannot download and install software like MSI or EXE files, digitally signed or not.

Essentially, S mode adds a layer of security by not allowing people to install software from anywhere. The team manually validates all games and apps available on Microsoft before making them accessible.
For downloading and installing programs from third-party sources, you must turn off S mode. Furthermore, make sure antivirus software is installed on your computer so that the laptop stays free from virus infection.

Method-1: Turn off S Mode from Settings:

Step-1: Press Windows + I key to open the Settings.

Step-2: Now click on the ‘Privacy & Security’ option from the left panel.

Step-3: Navigate down and tap over the ‘Activation’ option from the window’s right pane.

Step-4: Click on the ‘Go to the Store’ button to continue. This will open the ‘Switch out of S mode’ page.

Step-5: You can turn off S mode after clicking the ‘Get’ button in this mode. Now follow the instruction displayed on the screen to complete the process.
Method-2: Turn off S Mode by Resetting the Microsoft Store:

Step-1: Open the ‘Settings.’

Step-2: Tap on ‘Apps’ and then click on ‘Apps & features.’

Step-3: Navigate down to find ‘Microsoft Store.’ Now click on the 3 dots behind the Microsoft Store. Next, click on ‘Advanced options.

Step-4: Navigate down the content until you get the ‘Reset’ section. Now click on the Reset button. If a window is prompted, click on Reset to validate the operation.
