Premium Storage Settings - Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain (F&O) Environment Setup

While setting up an environment in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Supply Chain (formerly known as Finance and Operations or F&O), there is an option that has been recently added called Premium Storage Settings (as of January 2020).

What is Premium Storage Settings?

Premium Storage is a durable storage component on the Azure platform that stores data on the latest Solid State Drives (SSDs) and is used to handle high performance and low latency. Refer to the Azure Pricing page for more details.

Dynamics 365 for Finance and Supply Chain (D365 F&SCM, formerly known as Finance and Operations, F&O):

Premium storage in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Supply Chain (formerly known as F&O) leverages premium storage for Embedded analytics and reporting. While enabling Embedded PowerBI for D365 F&SCM there is an option that prompts an individual for the Premium storage size. Embedded PowerBI requires Premium disk storage while triggering D365 F&SCM reports. Also, on enabling a supported VM Size for the D365 F&SCM virtual machine,  the premium storage option is automatically selected for D365 F&SCM embedded PowerBI reporting.
