April 18, 20231 view0 Share By IG Share In today’s hyper-competitive business landscape, staying ahead of the curve is crucial, and that requires having accurate and real-time data. In this blog post, we’ll show you how to refresh your data in Power BI Report Server in less than an hour, ensuring that you always have the latest insights at your fingertips. First the steps: Log in to the PBIRS web portal as an administrator. Click on the “Settings” icon in the top-right corner of the page. Select “Configuration Manager” from the drop-down menu. In the left-hand navigation pane, select “Data“. Under “Data“, you should see a section labeled “Data source settings“. Check the “Maximum data source refresh frequency” setting. This is the maximum frequency at which data can be refreshed in PBIRS. If this is set to once per hour, you will not be able to schedule refreshing more frequently. When you try to setup data refresh from the UI of the Report Server, here is what it looks like: For the on-prem Report Server you can run a scheduled refresh every 1 minute if you want. It’s a bit misleading, but if you choose the “Hour” option you can specify 0 hours and as many minutes as you want. This test schedule that we setup internally runs every 3 minutes and works fine for us. In conclusion, keeping your reports up-to-date with regular data refreshes is crucial for informed decision-making. With Power BI Report Server, you have the flexibility to run scheduled refreshes at any frequency, including every minute if necessary. While it may seem misleading to select the “Hour” option to specify minutes, it is a workaround that can be effective. As shown by the test schedule set up internally, running a refresh every 3 minutes is possible and works fine. With these tips, you can ensure that your reports are always current and provide accurate insights for better decision-making.
